Sydney’s Cleanest Suburbs: Ranked by Local Cleaning Data
A clean home says a lot about a person. It means they prioritise hygiene and a healthy living environment for themselves, their family, and their guests! Of course, many homeowners don’t find the time or energy to stick to a cleaning routine, especially not on a daily or regular basis. So, what do they do? They turn to professional house cleaning services to keep their homes spick and span. Want to know more about the homes of Sydneysiders, read our home hygiene report with proprietary data of over 15,000 Sydney homes.
With that in mind, if you’re planning to move to a new city, suburb, or neighbourhood, you might be curious to know just how ‘clean’ your neighbours are keeping their homes! Well, we’ve studied the data and compiled some interesting statistics to determine which of Sydney’s 650+ suburbs rank as the top five cleanest!
Suburbs with the Highest Demand for Professional Cleaning Services in Sydney
After analysing booking data from house cleaning services across the city, we were able to conclude which areas most frequently hire professional cleaners. From over 100,000 verified bookings that we looked at, these suburbs account for over 12% of bookings for various household cleaning services in Sydney. It’s a rather clear indication of which neighbourhoods prioritise keeping their homes clean regardless of personal schedules.
While households may hire a professional house cleaning service for different reasons — higher living standards, better hygiene, convenience, hectic schedules, and so on — overall, these postcodes are currently Sydney’s ‘cleanest’:
- Surry Hills & Darlinghurst – 2.87%
- Sydney CBD – 2.67%
- Ryde & Putney – 2.36%
- Bondi Beach – 2.30%
- St Leonards – 2.00%
The statistics above are based on an analysis of over 100,000 completed bookings across Sydney.
Which Add-On Cleaning Services Lead The Charge?
In addition to identifying the suburbs with the highest demand for professional cleaning in Sydney, we delved further into the data to determine what types of cleaning services are most popular, along with their average pricing and the revenue they generate. Given that most cleaning companies offer a wide range of services, it’s worth noting which add-ons are booked most frequently.
Here are some statistics based on the same data referenced earlier:
| Extra Service | Price Point | Revenue | Share of Total Extras Revenue |
| Deep Clean | $50 | $204,950.00 | 37.7% |
| Carpet Steam Cleaning (Hallway) | $79 | $94,089.00 | 17.3% |
| Carpet Steam Cleaning | $110 | $89,210.00 | 16.4% |
| Deep Clean (1–3 Bedrooms) | $59 | $82,482.00 | 15.2% |
| Balcony Cleaning | $25 | $72,825.00 | 13.4% |
As you can see, both deep cleaning and carpet steam cleaning have two different pricing tiers, typically based on the size of the property or carpeted area. This allows customers to choose an option that aligns with their budget.
The Link Between Suburb Lifestyles and Service Demand
Now that we’ve established which Sydney suburbs rank the cleanest in terms of service demand, and the type of cleaning services that are most popular, let’s talk about why that is.
Among the suburbs mentioned earlier, three — Putney, Bondi Beach, and St Leonards — are affluent neighbourhoods with contrasting demands and preferences compared to lower or middle-income areas. Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, and parts of the Sydney CBD are also considered affluent due to gentrification and a high cost of living, while Ryde offers a mix of affluence and more affordable housing.
So, why are a few select cleaning services more frequently requested in these parts of the city? Let’s find out.
Key Insights: Why These Services Are So Popular
In many of Sydney’s more affluent suburbs, convenience and quality are top priorities for residents. High-income households are more likely to outsource tasks like deep cleaning, carpet steam cleaning, and balcony maintenance to maintain a high standard of living without the time commitment.
The data backs this up with Deep Cleans accounting for 53% of extra spend, as residents continue to prioritise hygiene and detail. Flooring, specifically, seems to be a top pain point with over 33% of add-on service revenue coming from Carpet Steam Cleaning. This further highlights how flooring is often the most difficult area to maintain without the help of a professional cleaner. Meanwhile, Balcony Cleaning, despite being the most affordable add-on, brings in 13.4% of extras revenue, proving that residents of these areas care about the cleanliness of their outdoor spaces, too.
Final Thoughts
Whether it’s a matter of prioritising a clean space, inside and outside, keeping up with the Joneses, or both, one thing’s for sure — some of Sydney’s suburbs continue to maintain spotless homes, and the data speaks for itself! With that said, as professional cleaning becomes more accessible and customisable, many Sydneysiders are choosing to invest in both comfort and cleanliness. The demand for professional cleaning services is steadily growing and it’s only a matter of time before more suburbs join Sydney’s 'clean elite'!
